Overview

VoiceCook is a mobile application that creates entertaining sound clips by adding creative sound effects on recorded voice. Using cooking as a metaphor, users can enjoy the process of recording voice and adding sound effects to make a sound clip which can be shared with others.

WALKTHROUGH DESIGN

FINAL DESIGN OVERVIEW

AUDITORY USER INTERFACE (AUI)

Design Brief

To create an easy and fun sound creating service that helps people to express themselves through sound creation, which eventually can be used in various sources such as ring tones, theme songs, or game sounds.

The target users are the people with desire to create music, yet do not have a chance due to lack of professional knowledge on instruments and composition.

Concept Development

The design concept started by connecting gustatory sense and auditory sense. We saw that the process of creating sound and making food are parallel. We decided to adopt the metaphor of "cooking" into our sound creating service and named it "VoiceCook".

STEPS TO CREATE SOUND WITH VOICECOOK

1. Prepare Ingredients

The user first has to record his or her voice, which becomes the main ingredient of the sound. The user can also add other sound ingredient sources such as egg, chopping, olive oil, water, foaming, salt, pepper, and spoon.

2. Choose Cooking Methods

The user can choose between stir frying, boiling, deep frying, and microwaving. Each cooking method generates different sound effects. Stir frying increases the voice pitch. Boiling adds echo to the voice. Deep frying adds auto-tune. Microwaving alters the voice into a robot voice. The user can also control the cooking time which determines the strength of the sound effect applied on the recorded voice.
